Departure 5: NEIL THOMAS + DAVID WELLS

NEIL THOMAS + DAVID WELLS are performance artists who have spent much of their lives enclosed behind glass in the ‘Urban Dream Capsule’ and who recently performed 'Mantalk’ at Melbourne Festival and Fringe Festival. They are not strangers to each other like other Tram Overheard guests, but they do seek out strange newness in their long standing relationship.

1 Dec 2006

December in Melbourne brings on the throng of the festive season, and Christmas. Who believes in Santa, who doesn't, and what might 'to give' mean in culturally diverse Melbourne? Neil and David share their own memories of Christmas and come across passengers' skeptical views on the role of Santa Claus and Father Christmas; how Hindus aboard W-11 are happy to have another reason to celebrate with a festival; and how to say 'happy Christmas' in Pakistan's national language Urdu. And who makes the better Father Christmas: Peter Costello, Kim Beasley, John Howard or Kevin Rudd?
