Three unsuspecting men jumped on a tram and started performing processional music on West Sumatran instruments talimpong – hand chimes, and rebanna – frame drums. They worked rhythm and tempo with and against the pace of the tram and density of passengers aboard. The talimpong hand chimes have an uncanny resonance with the forgotten sound of the tram’s bell. This was quite some enchanting passage.
